How this guy made me buy almost all his products

When I first started my journey as a copywriter back in 2024 I was hungry to learn.

I’d hunt for any free resource to equip myself with more knowledge because I couldn't afford to buy courses or pay for mentors.

I was a student trying to make it..

So I’d sign up for email lists and study how other copywriters wrote their emails.

What I figured out was that pretty much almost all the people I was reading from had this particular structure and formula to write their emails.

They’d touch a problem you as a reader were facing, agitate that problem and give you a solution to solve that problem.

PAS (problem, agitate, solution).

Is a classic copywriting formula to write any ad on any platform.

But there was one particular copywriter called Alin Dragu whose emails were a little different from what I was used to.

Alin would tell a story, pull a lesson from it, and give you action steps at the end.

His stories were funny and personal.

He’d talk about his family, kids, life, client work… then smoothly tie it all back to copywriting.

Something that you wouldn't normally see others do or talk about.

And I loved reading them, because his stories were resonating with me and my copywriting journey.

Every day, around 5 PM Malaysia time, his emails would hit my inbox.

I’d read them, laugh, learn something, and go about my day.

Soon enough, reading his emails became a habit.

I knew almost everything about the guy. I’d reply to his emails with questions about things I was struggling with, and he’d take the time to answer them properly.

One time, he even featured one of my questions in his email and answered it in front of his entire list.

Man, that made my day.

Even when I started my internship at a marketing agency, I’d finish work, head to the bus station, and read his emails while waiting for the bus.

Back then, I couldn’t afford his products or private community.

I reaaalllyyy wanted to snag up his email copywriting course, and learn his formula on how to write great emails just like him.

But today, Alin is my mentor, and I own almost all his products and pay him every month to be part of his private community where ask him questions almost every other day.

Which obviously has helped me a lot on my journey.

Now, here's why I'm telling you all of this.

Building a successful business online or offline is all about building relationship with your customers.

There were plenty of other copywriters I could’ve learned from and bajillions of email courses out there I could've bought.

But I ended up buying Alin’s products and paying for his community.

Why?

Because he built a relationship with me before I ever became a customer.

He let me into his world, and send me an email everyday like friend, and even reply to my emails answering my questions.

Every day, he’d tell me a story, teach me something, and show me what to do with it.

Over time, he earned my trust.

And when I needed help with copywriting, guess who came to mind?

Alin.

That’s the power of sending great emails to your list and showing up everyday in their inboxes.

You stay top of mind. You build trust. And you help people solve their problems long before they’re ready to buy.

And they’ll stick with you for a very long time.

Even if they are just subscribers sitting there and reading your stuff..

They will eventually turn into buyers when the opportunity presents itself.

And when they are ready to buy a product like yours they will choose you over your competitors.

Because you’ve been planting the seed on their mind for a very long time.

That’s it for today.

I’ll catch you up on the next one.

Hey Reader Last week was a busy one. I had plenty of work on my hands. I've been busy building the entire automation and email system for a client. And honestly, I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. You know why? Because I’ve been doing the thing I love most in this whole process. Writing. A LOT of writing. Not strategy, looking at data, or crafting offers and systems. Those things are crucial. If you get em' right, you can take your business up a notch, two, or ten in a single quarter. And...

Uuhh… brrr… The weather turned 180°. One day I’m getting roasted alive by the summer heat. Now I’m sitting at my desk feeling the cold breeze early in the morning, with my feet completely frozen. So I shoved one of them under my cat Mika, who’s sitting underneath my desk. She’s warm, puffy. Perfect little heater. Not the most welcoming one though. She likes to fight, scratch, and usually wants nothing to do with being petted. But give her food... and hehe... Suddenly, she’s the most welcoming...

Hey Reader Summer gave me some really good lessons. And some hard pills to swallow. But when you’re building something, you’ll always face roadblocks. Those roadblocks can make or break you. Embrace them, do the work, and eventually they become milestones. Fall to your knees every time they get in your way, and you’ll feel the pain of regret for the rest of your life. Anyway… The reason why I'm sending this email is to tell you why every online entrepreneur should have an email list. And I...
