Welcome to my newsletter

Long time ago, a great copywriter called Gary Halbert made an analogy about physical mail.

He divided it into two piles.

Pile A: Mail that looked personal.

These were the letters you wanted to open and read.

I would say mail that came from your grandma...

And...

Pile B: Mail that screamed "junk mail."

These were all the advertising mails that screamed promotions.

People could sniff them out and throw them in the trash without thinking twice.

And guess what...

If a reader doesn't read your ad/email, then your ad/email doesn't make any money..

He advised his son to write a mail that belongs to Pile A.

Where people would get triggered to open and read it.

That was the past era.

In today's era, things are different, but the analogy still applies.

If you craft emails that scream "promo," you'll end up in Pile B.

But if you craft emails that provide enough value for people to open and read them, then you've made it into Pile A.

Whether it's a designed email or a plain text email.

But value doesn't necessarily mean tips and tricks all the time.

It can also be something that:

  • Changes people's perspective.
  • Makes them laugh.
  • Makes them feel smart about your product.
  • Tells stories that resonate with them.
  • Teaches them a lesson that makes their life better.

And more...

When you hit that goal...

You've created goodwill with your email list.

So anytime you promote something, your readers look forward to buying it.

Because you've built that relationship with them.

You've earned their attention, their trust, and made them feel like they're part of something.

People buy you before they buy your products or services.

That's my intention with this newsletter.

I want this newsletter to become so valuable and important to you as receiving a letter from your grandma...

Thank you for reading my first email.

It means a lot to me.

I'll catch you in the next one.

Your friend,

Elton

P.S. If you want to receive my emails in your inbox reply with the word "grandma".

Reader In the previous email, I told you that one of the biggest levers in your email marketing is going to be your pop-up form. The reason is simple... The more people join your email list, the more money you can make. But the average industry signup rate is only 2-3%. That's not good... Especially for a brand constantly driving traffic to its website through ads or content. Imagine you've got 100k website visitors and only 2% subscribe. That's 2,000 subscribers. But with a pop-up form that...

Reader Today, traffic is getting more expensive than ever. Lots of brands are entering the market every day, competing for eyeballs so they can sell their products. The more brands enter, the higher the bid for ads becomes. Ads are super effective for driving traffic to your website. Unlike content, where you have to rely on algorithms, with ads you can feed the machine with cash and it'll show your ads to as many people as your budget allows. If your ad is good, it'll get clicked. More...

Reader Remember that email I told you about where I asked my client to tell me a story that foreshadows the work he does today? He told me a story about his grandma and the lessons she taught him that he still uses in his business today. We got that story written into an email, did some tweaks, added a segue to the current offer we were running, and told people to click and buy. So what happened after that? Well... as I was sitting yesterday on a call with one of the founders to fix some...
